NRG Well Examination Ltd provides Well Operators an independent well examination service that is compliant with European (and some other countries ) regulations which require an independent assessment to verify that wells are being designed, constructed, operated, suspended and abandoned in accordance with good practice and to ensure the risks from a well are reduced to as low as reasonably practicable. In the UK the work is in compliance with The Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive)(Safety Case etc.) Regulations 2015 (for offshore wells)) and with Regulation 18 of the Offshore Installations and Wells (Design and Construction etc.) Regulations 1996, (for Onshore wells)).
Well examination is always carried out in accordance with the Well Operator's Well Examination Scheme.
Well Examination applies to the life cycle of every well, from its initial design through to well construction, into the production operations phase and finally to well decommissioning and abandonment.
NRG well design and construction examination is targeted at the pressure boundary of the well, to ensure that this is adequate for the intended well's purpose. It includes an examination of all pressure containment equipment and other barriers, to ensure that the design is robust and fit for purpose.
Examination encompasses the well's Basis of Design including casing design, kick tolerance and the design of well control equipment. Examination of the well programme ensures that all of the risks have been evaluated, and that the control measures are adequate. Therefore, ensuring that the risks of a well release during well construction and operation, are as low as reasonably practicable.
Following drilling, NRG examines the well completion, suspension or abandonment design. After the well handover, the wells' operational phase (production/injection), examination continues both during the examination of production well integrity and the examination of intervention operations.
As well examiners, NRG are fully independent of the operator's line management. They have been instrumental in the development and execution of Well Examination Schemes for many of the leading UK and international operators since 1996.
Production Well Examination
Implementing Rigorous Production Examination Arrangements
NRG enables operators to comply with Regulation 18 of the Offshore Installations and Wells (Design and Construction) Regulations 1996. NRG Production Well Examination applies to production, injection, long-term shut-in and suspended wells on land, on an offshore installation, or subsea.
Production Well Examination follows the well handover to operations phase and is carried out in accordance with the Well Operator's Well Examination Scheme. Intervention operations on production wells are also subject to the well examination arrangements.
NRG Production Well Examination ensures that the well operator conforms to a rigorous Production Well Integrity Management System, and that all the wells are operated in accordance with the system. Production Well Examination also includes a review of the Production Well Integrity Management Systems employed against the requirements of industry standards and good practice requirements.
International Well Examination
Offering A Transparent Mecahnism For Demonstrating Compliance
NRG work to ensure compliance with both local legislation and good practice in relation to the drilling, maintenance, operation and eventual abandonment of world-wide oil and gas wells. International Well Examination builds upon our long established UK Well Examination process, with additional modules to create a slightly wider remit. While UK Well Examination is confined to the containment envelope of the well, the International Well Examination scheme considers a more detailed assessment of associated Well Control equipment.
Since its inception, NRG's business has grown internationally in relation to both onshore and offshore operations. An increasing number of Well Operators and stakeholders have recognised the advantages of independent assurance, particularly where well-related risks are perceived to be high. In response to enquiries from some of our International Operator clients, NRG has developed a standard model for independent well integrity examination based on quality management principles.
International Well Examination can be applied across the whole of the well life-cycle, or it can be applied to specific parts of the well life-cycle where there are perceived to be particular risks. Many of our clients have recognised the need for such a process, with a wider remit than well examination, in order to provide Senior Management with a level of assurance that will allow them to comply with emerging regulatory changes
